2026 — Setting out the main machine axis and defining the installation height for a forging furnace in the Czech Republic.
The customer was able to keep to an installation schedule that had been calculated very tightly from the outset, and expressed verbal appreciation for the work.
2026 — Survey of the rails of four crane runways in a newly built industrial assembly hall. The aim was to verify that the rail geometry lies within the legally prescribed tolerances and that crane operation can commence.
All surveyed crane runways were within the prescribed tolerance. The cranes could therefore be put into operation immediately.
2024 — Verification measurements, alignment and positioning of high-vacuum tubes, magnets and injectors of a synchrotron used for medical treatment.
The customer already knew the benefit of alignment with the 3D laser tracker from another facility and therefore commissioned the survey specifically for this installation. The coarse alignment of the beam path, which had previously taken six to ten weeks, could thus be omitted — the transition to fine adjustment was possible almost immediately.
Assignments with 3D laser trackers (Leica, FARO) in Europe as well as North and South America — each with the specific task on site.
Inspection of the machine, preparation of a measurement grid, check of drum abrasion (deformation) and cylindricity, alignment of the belt drums and check of the press table position — all in preparation for the installation of a new belt.
The belt installation was successful and the new belt ran smoothly right from the start.
Drum wear and positional deviations are not visible on a stationary belt. Anyone who does not measure them notices them only once the new belt is already running — and by then it has usually been damaged.
Initial situation: the belt steering roller was already at maximum deflection and still could not prevent the belt from running off. Assistance with the reinstallation of the belt steering roller system in a different position.
Relocating the steering roller increased the effectiveness of the belt control dramatically. The belt has been tracking reliably ever since, the alarms caused by maximum roller tilt stopped and production was able to start.
Realignment of the rebuilt machine after two separate fires in the plant — two assignments in 2014 and 2021, each before the installation of a new belt.
After the first alignment the machine went straight into production, with very satisfactory belt tracking from the start. Following the second fire the customer therefore requested the same measurement assignment again, which was carried out to their complete satisfaction.
After a rebuild, the position of the components relative to one another is unknown. Without a survey the only option is to correct belt tracking step by step during operation — in my experience two to four weeks.
Alignment of the machinery before the installation of the first belt.
The plant’s chief engineer explicitly commended the accuracy of the alignment. The belt installation went without problems and the belt tracked correctly straight away.
In a first installation there is no empirical value to fall back on. Without a survey the correct position is sought during operation, with the first belt serving as the test object.

The precise alignment of machine components and belt rollers shortened the run-in time of the press and enabled production to start on schedule.
In my estimation, several weeks of run-in and readjustment time are avoided in a first installation of this size.

After the survey the control movements needed to correct belt tracking were considerably smaller and no longer triggered maximum belt travel alarms — a result the customer was expressly satisfied with, as production could be resumed without unplanned downtime.
As long as it is unknown how the upper and lower belt are positioned relative to one another, the cause of the alarms can only be narrowed down by continuous readjustment. In my estimation that would have taken six to fourteen weeks.
The figures on time saved are values based on more than twenty years of practice, not quantities measured by the customer. They indicate how long a run-in or adjustment phase typically takes, in my estimation, without prior alignment.
